The inspiration for the Meriam Park master plan is rooted in new and traditional urban design principles that have created many of the most enduring and beautiful neighborhoods in America. This type of planning is seeing a resurgence as developers study the plans that conserve land and resources while giving communities lasting value over time.
The vision was developed around the notion that a big idea infuses a place with meaning and that meaning adds value. We believe a more holistic approach to urban development creates a sense of place and connection, while at the same time is accessible to different demographics and vibrant all throughout the day. Our community will be built around a “Green River” of open space that connects every resident and visitor to the regional trail network, Bidwell Park, and the local culture. Furthermore, a “beating heart” (HUB) anchors the plan as a basecamp for open-air experiences and the social center for all.
These ideas are supported by bonds to the cultural landscape. Chico is known for education, local industry, agriculture, lifestyle, and technical innovation. Linking to these assets will forever root Meriam Park in the regional context. The overarching goal is to create an authentic and lasting sense of place with a foundation of sustainability, mixed uses, and connections.
